L: Yeah, um, well, OK. So, yes, I think a lot of people do lie in their lives um at least in a little bit.
Um, so, what makes that something that we do or not do, like what are those sort of things and that is what this program is really about. I love that it.
Um it starts with an example from a study, so somebody actually did a study, um, where they dropped wallets so something that people keep their money and maybe like a picture of their kids or their family or their loved one.
L: Um, and it had some it had a key in it and some of the wallets had a little bit amount of money and some of them had a lot of money and they basically brought these wallets I think there were 17,000 of them they brought them to.
A: Yeah, a vast number.
L: Yeah, huge. um so they brought them to different countries all around the world and they brought them to hotels and police stations and um there were other places that they brought them.
Um, anyway, places that people would turn in wallets and they would tell the people they're like, "Here, I found this on the sidewalk outside. Can you please go find out whose it is and return it to them?"
And then the person running the study would leave or whoever was dropping it off. And um then there was a phone number inside the wallets I think or some way to contact the study.
And uh they studied how many of these wallets were returned and they found some really weird things.
L: So, for example, uh, Adam, I know you would return a wallet.
A: I would. I would. I mean and I'll, I've got a good story about something that happened to me but I want to hear more about this.
L: Yes, Oh, I can't wait to hear it. OK. So, basically they found a couple things one if the wallet had more money in it.
L: If it had say a hundred us dollars versus ten us dollars, the they were more likely to return a wallet with more money.
A: Right.
L: Which seems like it seems counterintuitive you would think that maybe somebody would take the money and then return the wallet or whatever.
A: Yeah.
L: Um, they also found that it was more likely it would be returned if it had like a key in it. Um, yeah. So maybe.
A: Yeah. Oh, OK.
L: Yeah. Maybe like somebody thought, "Oh, they must need that key." or whatever. So some of these things um we talk about in the program and that was this is a great experiment, I think to learn about.
A: Yeah.
L: 네, 음, 좋아요. 그래서 네, 많은 사람들이 적어도 자신의 삶에서 조금은 거짓말을 한다고 생각해요.
음, 그래서 우리가 무엇을 하든 하지 않든지, 그런 종류의 것들이 무엇인지, 그리고 그것이 이 프로그램의 진정한 의미에요. 저는 그게 좋아요.
음, 한 연구의 사례로 시작할 텐데요, 누군가가 실제로 지갑을 잃어버렸고, 사람들이 지갑에 돈을 넣어두고 자녀나 가족 또는 사랑하는 사람의 사진 같은 것이 있으면 어떻게 하는지 연구를 했어요.
L: 음, 어떤 지갑에는 열쇠가 들어 있었고, 어떤 지갑에는 약간의 돈이 들어 있었고, 어떤 지갑에는 많은 돈이 들어 있었고, 기본적으로 이 지갑을 가져 왔던 사람들은 17,000개의 지갑을 가져 왔던 것으로 알고 있습니다.
A: 네, 엄청난 숫자죠.
네. 엄청나요. 그래서 그들은 전 세계 여러 나라로 가져 왔고 호텔과 경찰서에 가져 왔고 다른 장소에도 가져 왔어요.
어쨌든, 사람들은 지갑을 돌려주면서 사람들에게 "여기, 밖 인도에서 이걸 찾았어요. 누구 것인지 찾아서 돌려주실 수 있나요?"라고 말했어요.
그러고는 연구를 진행하는 사람이 가거나 누가 그것을 내려놓는 사람이 갔어요. 그리고 지갑 안에는 연구소에 연락할 수 있는 전화번호가 적혀 있었던 것 같아요.
그리고 얼마나 많은 지갑이 반환되었는지 조사했는데 정말 특이한 것들을 발견했어요.
L: 그럼 예를 들어 Adam, 저는 당신이 지갑을 반납할 거라는 걸 알아요.
A: 물론이죠. 제게 일어난 일에 대한 좋은 이야기가 있는데 저는 이것에 대해 더 듣고 싶어요.
L: 네, 오, 빨리 듣고 싶네요. 좋아요. 그래서 기본적으로 지갑에 돈이 더 많이 들어있는 경우 몇 가지를 발견했어요.
L: 100달러와 10달러가 있다고 하면 더 많은 돈이 들어있는 지갑을 돌려줄 가능성이 더 높았어요.
A: 그렇군요.
L: 누군가가 돈을 가져갔다가 지갑이나 다른 것을 돌려줄 거라고 생각하는 것은 반직관적인 것 같아요.
A: 네.
L: 음, 그들은 또한 지갑에 열쇠 같은 것이 있으면 반환 될 가능성이 더 높다는 것을 알게 되었어요. 음, 네. 그래서 아마도요.
A: 네. 오, 알겠어요.
L: 네. 누군가가 "오, 그 열쇠가 필요할거야." 라든지 뭐 그런 식으로 생각했을 수도 있으니까요. 그래서 우리가 프로그램에서 이야기하는 이러한 것들 중 몇 가지는 우리가 배우기에 정말 좋은 실험이라고 생각해요.
